Human Rights Film Festival

The Human Rights Film Festival 2008 was held on November 16-19 at the Public Library auditorium to uphold the commitment to human rights. The festival included films, discussions and seminars. Films of both young and veteran filmmakers were screened.

Zahir Raihan’s Stop Genocide and Tauqir Ahmed’s Joyjatra were screened on the first day. A total of 14 films were screened at the festival. These included Murshedul Islam’s Sharat ‘71, Tanveer Mokammel’s Swapnabhumi, Kawser Chowdhury’s Shei Rater Katha Bolte Eshechhi, Tareq Masud’s Matir Moina and Saidul Anam Tutul’s Ami Shei Meye. On November 18 a seminar was held on Violence in Films. Murshedul Islam read the keynote paper at the seminar.

Universal Human Rights was declared in 1948, making 2008 the 60th year of human rights. As part of the 60th anniversary commemorations, Ain O Salish Kendra organised several programmes. This film festival was part of the commemorations. Besides being a source of entertainment, films highlighted social, cultural and political issues of significance.

In 1986 Ain O Salish Kendra began its  efforts to establish human rights, secularism, social justice and democratic values in the country. It strives to ensure the legal rights of women, children, poor persons and other deprived sections of the society. Driven by commitment to free society from disparities and discrimination, Ain O Salish Kendra works to raise people’s awareness and nurture democratic values.
