KARZAI FIRES MILITARY LEADERS
Following the death of about 89 innocent civilians during a air strike, allegedly targeting Taliban militants, on the village of Azizabad in Heart province, President Hamid Karzai has fired General Jalandar Shah Behnam, senior commander of the western division and Major Abdul Jabar, a commander. Karazai has also called Behnam and Jabar to Kabul to as an investigation is launched. The bombing, which took place late last week, was undertaken by the American-led coalition which continues to claim that only 30 militants were killed. It is however said to be looking further into the matter. Since the war in Afghanistan began in 2001, there have been numerous accusations that the aerial bombings allegedly targeted at militants in fact usually only devastate innocent villages. In turn, Afghan President Hamid Karzai has always blamed the American- and NATO-led troops for the death of blameless civilians. This is the first time Afghan heads have rolled.
