Telecom Fair at Basundhara

The Weekly Financial Mirror has organised the Second Bangladesh International Telecom Fair 2006 at the city’s Bashundhara Shopping Mall this week. It will continue daily from 10 in the morning till 9:30 at night up till June 19. Entrance fee is 10 taka.

The fair was inaugurated by the Minister for Post and Telecommunications Barrister Aminul Huq. Also present at the inauguration was State Minister for Finance and Planning Shah M Abul Hossain, BTRC Chairman Muhammed Omar Farooq, Ambassador of Thailand Suphat Chitramukroh, and Jamuna Bank MD M Nazrul Islam.

The fair organisers say, “We expect that the Telecom Fair will facilitate the interaction of telecom companies and customers. The direct interaction will bring more opportunities to win the trust of the people, resulting in expansion of the existing customer base. A total number of 70 companies operating at home and abroad, including PSTN operators, cell phone service providers, ISP facilitators, handset importers and allied technology promoters have stalls for the exposition of their products to prospective buyers. We have called it an International Telecom Fair because some leading telecom joint venture telecom companies are taking part in this gala telecom exposition.”

The fair has 70 stalls. The participating firms include Teletalk, Aktel, Angel Digitec, Anik Telecom, Bentel, Flora Telecom, Future RE, I Mobile, Limo Electronics, Maple International, Next Web, Nokia (CMPL), Ring Bangladesh, Robotel, Spectra Solution and Techno Source. Co-sponsors of the fair are Jamuna Bank, Sagem, I Mobile, Ring Bd Motorola, Anik Telecom and Thai Airways. The event partner is Maa Consortium. The official drink supplier is Urocola. The media partners are ATN Bangla and Daily Naya Diganta.

The fair will feature a daily mobile fashion show. The companies will be offering various packages and there will also be a raffle draw. Thai Airways is giving away two Dhaka-Bangkok-Dhaka tickets as first prize. I Mobile is giving away the second prize to three lucky persons – mobile phone sets with connections. Third prize will go to 10 persons – mobile phone sets.
